A Bump in the Road

November and January brought Lance great news as the drug trial at Vanderbilt continues to keep his cancer stable in his lungs and brain.  PRAISE GOD for that!  He will continue in the trial, flying to Nashville every 2 weeks for his treatments.  Unfortunately, The Bertrands have had other challenges arise over the last several months.

In November, as the Bertrands were preparing to move out of their two-story house and into a one-story house, Lance had a very unfortunate accident.  While packing up the old house and attempting to move a box down stairs, he lost his footing near the top of the wood stairs and had a terrible fall that resulted in a fracture and dislocation of his right elbow.  He is right handed, so this injury has been very life-altering.  Lance and Therese were one week shy of moving out of this two story when this accident occurred.

The house closing, packing, moving and unpacking went on with Lance "supervising" and with lots of help from family and friends.  Lance and Therese are very relieved to be out of the two story and in a one story house.

Just one day afer moving into the new house, Lance had surgery to repair his right elbow.  The head of the radial bone was shattered and had to be replaced with a titanium prosthesis.  He went to physical therapy three times a week for rehab, and unfortunately, he was unable to drive or work for the next several weeks.  He continued to travel to Nashville, though he could not travel alone any longer due to his limitations related to his elbow injury.

In February, Lance was able to return to work which lifted his spirits after being pent up for so long.  The doctor says that his elbow is not healing as well as he would like, so another surgery may be required soon.

In the midst of all this, Jude and Jolie are getting bigger and cuter every day!  Enjoy the picture below, and please continue to keep The Bertrands in your prayers.  Specifically, please pray for a complete recovery of Lance's elbow and for continued stability of his cancer and MS.

Good News from Nashville!

Lance and Therese discovered encouraging news during their routine 8-week checkup at Vanderbilt in Nashville this week. The results of Lance's CT scan showed that the main tumor in his lung is slightly SMALLER! This is the first time in a while that the scans have shown a reduction, typically they have shown stabilization.

An important fact to note: Lance is now the longest responder to this drug at Vanderbilt. The doctor was truly amazed at his results! Lance will remain in the trial.

Keep up the prayers y'all....they're working!

Update on Lance

For the past few weeks, Lance and Therese have been anxiously awaiting Lance's next set of CT and MRI scans. Today, just 48 hours before their daughter is due to be born, Lance received the results... Praise be to God!  Both the CT and MRI show that the cancer remains stable in the brain and lungs!  Now it's time to prepare for the birth of their baby girl, Jolie!  His next set of scans will be in 8 weeks.  Thank you all for your prayers!  Stay tuned for news on Jolie's birth.
